Madeira buses on Sundays and holidays

Do the buses run on Sundays?

Most do.

Of the 107 SIGA timetable sheets in our archive, 105 have a readable text layer and 98 of those print a Sundays or holidays heading, most often “Domingos e Feriados”. 7 readable sheets print no Sunday or holiday heading at all, and 2 sheets could not be read by machine; for all of those, SIGA’s own page is the only answer.

Madeira’s buses do run on Sundays and holidays, but on a different column of the sheet, usually with fewer departures. This guide reads the headings off every SIGA sheet we hold and reports them as printed. It gives no times: those sit on the route pages with a date.

The headings as SIGA prints them

Most SIGA sheets combine Sundays and public holidays. Read the actual “Feriados” heading: the 380/381 return table combines Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, while 127 separates Sundays and holidays. School-period notes may also apply. Do not automatically use a Sunday column for a holiday.

Printed heading Means Sheets
Sábados Saturdays 81
Domingos e Feriados Sundays and holidays 78
Sábado Saturdays 76
Domingo Sundays and holidays 66
Dias úteis Weekdays 63
2ª a 6ª Weekdays 21
Segunda a Sexta Weekdays 16
Domingos Sundays and holidays 10
Feriados Sundays and holidays 10
Período Escolar School period 10
DOMINGOS Sundays and holidays 5
FERIADOS Sundays and holidays 4
PERÍODO ESCOLAR School period 1

Sheets with no Sunday column

The routes listed below have a sheet whose text prints a weekday heading and sometimes a Saturday one, but nothing for Sundays or holidays. That usually means the route does not run on those days, but we only report what the sheet prints; confirm on SIGA before relying on it, and look for an alternative corridor to the same place.

Which days count as holidays

Portugal’s national public holidays and Madeira’s regional holidays fall under the “Feriados” heading. SIGA sheets print the heading, not the calendar, so check the date of a regional holiday with an official calendar rather than assuming a weekday service. Local festivals can also bring road closures that SIGA announces as service notices.

Where the Sunday times are

Most route pages show a dated timetable card from SIGA’s sheet, with first and last departures by day type and an expiry date. PDF-only pages link to the official sheet; a few pages have neither a card nor a verified PDF. Check the return direction and your travel day on the available sheet before setting off.
